Real-time Account Updater is a service that automatically checks for updated card details with card networks like Visa and Mastercard when a payment is declined due to outdated card information. When cardholder information changes, the card details are updated and the payment is retried using the latest information. Unlike batch update processes that run on a schedule, real-time updates occur during the payment flow, allowing transactions to continue without disruption.

Real-time Account Updater with Retry Service

Real-time Account Updater works with Retry Service to improve authorization rates. When a payment fails due to outdated card details, Retry Service triggers a real-time update check, retrieves updated information, and automatically retries the payment. This entire process occurs during the payment flow without interrupting your transaction processing.

How can you benefit from this service

  • When you store consumer payment credentials for recurring or high-frequency transactions and want to reduce failed transactions caused by outdated card details.
  • Real-time Account Updater supports recurring and subscription transactions, so all of your consumer's card details and information on specific rejections at the time of processing the payment are obtained.

  1. Transaction is not authorized.
  2. Check if the transaction qualifies for retry.
  3. Send an update request to account updater.
  4. Account updater processes your request and sends an update request to card schemes.
  5. We receive the updated details from card schemes and retry the transaction.
  6. Account updater requests a profile token update.
  7. Your consumer's profile token is updated.
If no updated card details are obtained, then we will not retry the authorization.

Table below shows the different types of update and the action that we recommend to take for each specific type:

Type of update Action

Account closure The transaction is not retried. Deactivate the token. Stop processing payment with the deactivated token, and contact the cardholder for more information before attempting to re-bill.
