iDEAL is the leading payment method for online shopping in the Netherlands, favored by consumers with a Dutch bank account. This real-time bank transfer system allows consumers to pay directly from their bank accounts.
Since its launch in 2005, iDEAL has grown to become the standard for online payments in the Netherlands. It reaches nearly 100% of Dutch consumers and is used for over a billion payments annually. Remarkably, 70% of all e-commerce transactions in the Netherlands are paid through iDEAL.
Effective April 1, 2025, merchants with a bank selection list on their payment page have to:
- Remove the bank selection list from their domain.
- Redirect consumers to the iDEAL payment page to choose their bank and complete the payment.
